I’m going to tell you a story today that is based on true events. This story of a young man named Karam Kumar (49 years old, name has been changed) who used to manage a business in Gujarat until he was involved in an unfortunate accident and suffered a permanent Spinal Cord Injury. Most of us are aware that a Serious Spinal Cord Injury is a painful injury that can leave a person bedridden for decades, as well as cause mental and emotional problems. Well, his world came crumbling down following the accident, because his life transformed completely in a blink of an eye, and his everyday activities became hard to fulfil. Karam was so paralyzed that he couldn’t even wipe the tears from his eyes.
His agony was made worse by the fact that he was a single man with two frail old parents dealing with day-to-day life after a spinal cord injury was like being on a battlefield, where his body had turned against him, and his recovery journey had begun at level zero. From the neck down, he was paralyzed. Karam’s father didn’t leave any stone unturned in his efforts to bring his son back to health. He travelled around the country and to practically every medical specialty for 11 years, only to be dissatisfied until one day, when he heard about a Neuro Hospital in Bangalore. ‘Karam’ is a true combatant in the sense that He had that vivid notion about himself that he would walk one day, and now we heard that the 11-year-old tussle had finished, and he could hold a spoon, eat, write, dress himself, and walk. ‘Karam was really unhappy of that unbearably slow process, but he kept his faith and kept trying to do few menial movements of one muscle at a time, just for a few minutes every day, and it took him 10 years to function his body at full capacity with the help of all medical processes,’ according to a report.
So the conclusion is that any menial task with the support of individual self, whether it’s shooting free throws or resisting a chocolate chip cookie, or improving your communication skills, learning one vocab per day, doing 10 push ups every day, vividly imagining a successful career, paying gratitude to the universe, taking a Menial step everyday to become an Entrepreneur, and so on, unless it comes with full capacity by itself. If I speak methodically, repeating any of these duties on a daily basis transforms us in such a way that we can master anything we want.
So, if you’ve been berated by someone or some scathing things have been said about you, even with libelous posters on the road, which have already put you in jeopardy and menacing your self-confidence, and you don’t have a reason to just stride up again, it’ll be considered your fault and you’ll be paying for that self-created pigeonhole. So get up and believe in yourself, do what you want to do for at least 30 minutes every day, mastering your inner self to become the true you that you had dreamed off.
All doctors and institutions that have helped “Karam” recover from this sad injury deserve our appreciation and gratitude.
